Designer Spotlight: Jane Coslick

Ok, Ok. I am thinking by now you are getting tired of my coastal theme this week. Jane Coslick represents coastal design and that is her main work. She has that pop of color in every room. She is also a firm believe of restoration and salvaging materials as much as possible.

Jane designs for “coffee in the morning and cocktails at night. Pull out a daybed and there’s no better place to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean,” she says.

Jane rarely passes up a chance to promote preservation of classic beach cottages. “I hope people appreciate the potential of funky little beach shacks and fight to keep them,” she says. In this kitchen, glass-tile countertops in iridescent sea shades play up the room’s shoreside charm, but it’s the screened pantry door with a conch shell knob that really turns heads.

“Wood walls and ceilings are just about the most important thing in a house,” Jane says. “Go with wood, even if your budget allows it on only a single wall.”

“Look for original wood beneath carpet and behind drywall or cheap paneling. Wood gives a house its character,” Jane says. Unpainted boards saved from this original home now cover walls in the dressing area adjacent to the outdoor shower.

“There’s just something about having a piece in a  room and knowing you won’t walk into the neighbor’s house and find the same thing,”

Accessories for Coastal Design Look

I hope you enjoyed yesterdays post. As promised here are few accessories to complete the coastal design look.

Using shells or starfishes are a great way to add to the beach decor:

Isn’t this ship adorable. This photo doesn’t give it justice.

Even if you do not have the Shabby Chick Coastal Style you can always host a dinner with this dish set:

Or you can use a crown:

Using driftwood always feels comforting in a beach styled home

Cannot forget hurricane glass vases and lanterns. You can always change out what’s inside the vases and with a lit candle at night they give out such a warm glow.

And last but not least artwork:

Coastal Design

You are probably very familiar with Home Goods and how you can spend hours upon hours in that store. If  you are not, Home Goods in part of the TJ Maxx stores. They sell everything for your home and their inventory changes all the time. I have gotten so many items from that store and I always go back for more. On my last trip there I picked these guys up (see photo below) and now I have to find space for them in my house. I am thinking my master bedroom or even my master bathroom. I will let you know as soon as I figure it out.

I love the coast. As much as I like the West Coast I love the East Coast. I love that “Coastal Shabby Chic” style, it feels very welcoming to me and if I could I would live in a small cottage in one of the small islands on the East Coast and be content for the rest of my life.

I actually have a helm that I can use for my decor.

Can you imagine yourself having breakfast or dinner here? The ambiance is fantastic.

I really love the colors in this photo even though I am not very big on the pink flamingos.

Lace

Did you stay up to watch the royal wedding? I sure didn’t. As soon as I woke up I turned on the TV and practically every channel was covering the wedding, what everyone wore, etc. Out of everything I was mostly interested in the dress, and I have to say it is beautiful. It is making me want to re-do my vowels with my husband so I have a new dress to wear. Doesn’t she look stunning?

The bride arrives at Westminster Abbey.

Using Kate’s dress as an inspiration I found few ways that lace can be used in interiors today.

Of course lace can also be used in accessories as well as bedding and draperies. A few examples I found in using lace to wrap up packages, napkin holders, and very pretty necklaces.

So what did you think of Princess Kate’s dress?

White…

as in the Princess’s sister Pippa’s dress. The whole weekend people have been discussing if its a trend that will pick up on not. I think that she looked very classy in the dress and that it was right for the royal wedding. Other than that I do not think anyone else should be wearing white other than the bride, but what do I know.

Pippa MiddletonStylish choice: Pippa's slinky white cowl-neck dress showed off her slender figure, while the cap sleeves kept it youthful. The back of the dress was studded with tiny silk-covered buttons

White is a color that projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Doctors usually wear white coats, brides traditionally wear white gowns, and a white picket fence surrounds a safe and happy home. The ancient Greeks wore white to bed to ensure pleasant dreams.
"The first of all single colors is white ... We shall set down white for the representative of light, without which no color can be seen; yellow for the earth; green for water; blue for air; red for fire; and black for total darkness." -- Leonardo Da Vinci

Do you like white in interiors? Me, personally would love it if I was to live in a house right off the beach or somewhere on a farm in French country, other than that no.

Have a great Monday everyone!
