It is Friday again! Not sure why but I am finding myself at the computer a little after midnight. Trust me this doesn’t happen often, well almost never. Since having my daughter I am usually ready to sleep by 10pm. I know, I know, I am getting old.

My love for pumpkins

I love pumpkins. They are cute and yummy! Pumpkins are great for decorating and of course perfect for fall. I don’t think we can have fall without pumpkins and apples! Growing up the best ways to eat pumpkin was to bake it and sprinkle with sugar  or make this Bulgarian pastry called tikvenik. Yummy,  it is making me home sick!

House Tour: Sarah Richardson’s home

This is probably not the first time and for sure will not be the last time you will hear me say that Sarah Richardson is one of my favorite interior designers. Her style is clean, simple and elegant. Plus I love that she brings vintage items to her some of her designs as well as DIY projects.  There hasn’t been a space that she has designed that I haven’t envisioned myself living there.

 

Well a couple of days ago I picked up a brand new spanking magazine….HGTV magazine. That’s right, HGTV has launched their own magazine. You can read a little more about it here.

 

Anyways I was very excited to see Sarah’s old farmhouse at the HGTV magazine. We , the readers, even got to get a pick into her pantry and closets. Pretty neat. You may remember seeing the remodel of the farm house on HGTV last year.

 

 

 

“Nothing is off-limits to the kids. Not even our vintage china. We use it all the time. I think it’s nice to learn at a young age to appreciate pretty things. And if it breaks, it breaks. Otherwise, what’s the point of having it?”

 

 

“I rearrange furniture at least once a year. I have two sofas and lots of different chairs that I mix up. And my lightweight footstools are always on the move. I put them in just about every design job I do. They work as extra seating, laptop landing pads, and puzzle for the kids.”

Have you heard?

HGTV has a new magazine. The official premier date was yesterday, but I was able to get my copy last week.

 

The magazine is fresh yet is formatted just like their shows. You can see a little bit of “House Hunters”, Curb Appeal, “Steal the Show” decorating and “Ask a Handyman”.

I am not sure if I will be subscribing myself yet since according to Hearst Publications, a second test issue of HGTV Magazine is slated for February/March 2012, with a newsstand release date of January 17. One thing I would say for sure it is worth checking it out.

A Playhouse Dream

Every year, here in Orange County,  there is a local event called Project Playhouse. Project Playhouse is a local fundraiser hosted by HomeAid Orange County. In 18 years, the event has raised more than $5.5 million to help the organization fulfill its mission to build and maintain dignified housing where homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives.

 

The success of Project Playhouse is attributed to the incredibly generous builder teams who donate their time, talent and resources to construct each fantasy cottage. These whimsical playhouses contain working electrical systems and include such amenities as flat screen TVs, entertainment systems and video game players.

 

I will not be able to make it this year since I am busy with prior engagement but if you are local to Orange County you should check them out. The houses are showcased at the Irvine Spectrum and Saturday, October 8th, from noon to 6pm is the only day to see the inside of the playhouse.
