Wednesday House Tour

I can’t believe I am saying this out loud but I receive about 17 magazines a month. Some of my favorites have to be HGTV and Better Homes and Gardens. Those two magazines are fresh and are so much fun to read. This is a home that I saw in BHG and fell in love with: from the colors to the casual and relaxed feel of the home. The bright colors make the house cheery and very inviting. There are no words to describe the front porch. I can see myself with a good book sitting there for hours.

Wednesday Home Tour: Resse Witherspoon’s Ojai Home

Resse Witherspoon is a good actress. I do not have a favorite actress but if I do she would be one of them. I can watch “Sweet Home Alabama” over and over again. So when I saw her on the cover of the September issue of Elle Decor I dived right in to check out her home.

I love the charm of the home but at the same time I feel that it need a little bit of color.Of course to each their own. What I love the most are the grounds and the terrace. I am a huge sucker for outdoor living.  The house used to belong to a designer you might of heard of…Kathryn Ireland…Kathryn is big on color and patterns which shows in the interior of the house.

If you had the choice would you choose the more neutral colors decor or the over the top color decor? I know that that’s too much color for me and I would go with Resse’s interior choices.

House Tour: A Farmhouse Restoration

This is the 2012 Idea House from Southern Living and I love the design of it. When I picked up a copy of the magazine while browsing at Barnes and Noble I was immediately drawn to the house. The exterior before looks nothing like what the beauty that is now. The interiors are bright with small touch of color. The space looks inviting and comfortable. To me it screams “come, relax, and let’s have some friends over to keep you company”. I love the charm of the living room and wish my living room could look like that.

Small Chic Home

Every summer House Beautiful Magazine comes out with they small spaces issue. This year they didn’t disappoint.  This 1,650 square foot weekend home located on coastal Marin county in CA was designed by Erin Martin Designs. It is an elegant coastal design.

Now please tell me what do you think about this space. Although I like some of the design elements it comes off a little too “cold” for me. It doesn’t have that casual coastal design to it. It feels too industrial at some points. A few things that I like the space are the living room design, the outdoor bar right off the kitchen, the pull down map that covers the TV.

House Tour: A Coastal Home

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! My family and I spent yesterday hanging out in Beverly Hills but my camera’s battery died after taking 5 pictures. I did take a few photos with my phone that I will show you later this week.

This past weekend I was also able to look through some of my new magazines that came in the mail. I love when I get a magazine that showcases a coastal home. I love the coast. I love coastal design. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the East Coast or the West Coast. Of course you can see coastal design anywhere. This home is located in Laguna Beach, CA and I knew  that it’s right up my alley. The texture on the walls, the iron work details on the doors, the beams on the ceiling it gives the home a character and an old feel to it. It makes me think of Greece or even Tuscany.

Home Inspiration

The homeowners of this home moved from 1870s Victorian home to a co-op on the 22nd floor of a building overlooking Lake Michigan. They found themselves with a house full of furniture that were too small for their new home. The co-op’s spacious rooms, including a 34x19-foot living room with 10-foot ceilings, demanded furniture with weight and heft, says Jessica Lagrange, a Chicago interior designer and longtime friend who came to the McEnirys’ rescue. “Their other home was beautiful,” she notes, “but its rooms were smaller and darker. Here, everything is grand and on a much larger scale.”

My favorite room has to be the living room. I love the scale of the panels that are “made in China, the designs are hand-painted on textured papers that were installed in strips by a paint contractor. Framing the panels are moldings that flank 9-foot-tall double doors at each end of the room. “
