Design Dilemma

I cannot believe that I am about to show you my hand-me down 20 year old coffee table, but I am. When my husband and I moved to California from Washington 5 years ago, we were lucky to have enough hand-me downs from my family to furnish our apartment. Now that  we are living in our first purchased home little by little we have been replacing the hand-me downs with pieces that do not look so missed matched.

While walking around at IKEA last night we found a decent size coffee table but as soon as we came home it downed on us that we are the parents of a very active toddler. The coffee table has sharp corners and spells trouble.

This is the table from IKEA:

LACK Coffee table Length: 46 1/2 " Width: 30 3/4 " Height: 17 3/4 " Length: 118 cm Width: 78 cm Height: 45 cm

And this is the current table that we have. Doesn’t this scream the 80s?

The dilemma that I have is do I buy the IKEA coffee table (which is at a price that will not brake my budget) or do I keep the glass of the existing table and build a frame for it?

  1. If your greatest concern is with the sharp edges on the Ikea coffee table I would build a frame. However, the Ikea table is young and fresh.

  2. I thinking you can keep the Ikea table, but you can make a new frame for your old table. I know one person who can make you a frame.

  3. Honestly, I can't believe that you don't love that coffee table, I think it is *fabulous*!!! If it's too brassy on the bottom for you, you could totally just hit that baby with some metallic spray paint to take down the shine a notch...but seriously, style that thing with some books and some flowers and I say done and done!!! Which I do realize the previously mentioned toddler with tear apart *FREQUENTLY*...make sure it's not stuff you really like (c: Happy Weekend, girlie!

  4. I agree with Aubrey I think your current coffee table has a great shape and lines. You could do something with paint and I think you could love it again! Hope you had a great weekend!
