Everyone says “Do not visit New York City during the holiday season.” That’s what I hear from people when I mention that I would love to visit NYC during the holiday season. “It is not as magical as people think.” is another saying that I have come across as well. I have been to NYC once, back in March of 2005. I stayed there for a week with a very good friend of mine. We had a blast doing lots of tourist things as well as just wondering around the city. We even got to meet a Rockette. Yay!
Back to NYC during the holiday season. Yes, I would love to visit the city right on Thanksgiving, watch the parade on the street freezing rather than in my living room, I would rather see the Radio City Rockettes perform in the Radio City Hall rather than seeing the traveling Rockettes (which are great, can’t wait for them to come back to OC), skate at the Rockefeller center, eat an ice cream at Serendipity, take a stroll with my husband at Central Park, etc. I would love to see all of the holiday window displays. Every year major department stores in NYC decorate their window displays for the holidays with a special theme and people flock to see them.
Macy’s
This year Macy’s decorated one of it’s windows with “ Yes, Virginia, there is Santa Claus!” theme. It is very true to the book and very holiday like.
Here is one of the other Macy’s holiday window display:
Lord & Taylor
Bloomingdale's
Saks 5th Avenue
Bergdorf Goodman
Barney’s

I was fortunate this year in that I was able to visit NYC with Debby Schuh. We got to see the windows when they were all completed. Bergdorf's was my favorite...all made from paper!!! How it is even possible is beyond me...absolutely spectacular. Those who say stay away from the City at Christmas time...no way...it's the best time to go!!! Thanks for reminding me again of a wonderful time!!!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorites are Macys and Lord and Taylor. I would love to go there at Christmas time too...I bet it's so magical! Thanks for sharing!
